I order to develop our knowledge about using the camera's and lights we took a trip to a
Film:Workshop were we met with a camera operator Robert foster. He explained a bit about his work and how he had filmed for shows like:The bill and Hollyoaks. He said that lighting was everything within film and demonstrated how just having one light can really shadow the face which adds quite a demonic look to the people, which would be quite good to use in horror films especially.
He moved the lights around in order to create different settings such as day and night and changed the light with filters. This has made me think that buying simple filters might help enhance my trailer.
I learnt that camera angels are key within filming as they can portray so much about a person especially the main character. As I am doing a horror trailer the victims should be portrayed in high angles to show they are weak and vulnerable whereas, the villain show be portrayed in low angle shot to show them a demising and strong.
I also learn't that continuity of lighting is very important as this could be the variable in which makes your trailer look like it's been filmed in one and has a smooth flowing feel to it.
Furthermore, I have learn't that colour temperature is important as this can be what decides the day as cold light can make the shot look like it was done at night time even though it wasn't.Also we know that when filming close to someones face you may need to compensate with the contrasting lights in order to make sure the lighting looks natural and clear.
Also as a lighting camera operator Robert Foster tells us that filming with normal light with a room with look quite bad and give the actors/actresses a unrealistic look therefore, it would be better to set up your own lights in order to have more control as controlling the lighting will also help continuity.
