Throughout my research of what I want my film/trailer to be about I drew inspiration from previous movies. In my market research I found that all of my target audience were wanting a sub genre in my plot so i have picked romance to be my side line genre.
I have drew a lot of inspiration from past and recent films such as the (Sleeping with the Enemy) a 1991 Psychological thriller and Ouija (2014) Horror. So I thought I would analysis both of the trailers for these films and at the end make a decision as to what my trailers style should be.
Throughout watching this trailer I notice you can clearly see a divide as to when there is a change of events occurs as the sounds increase and the scenes darken. Now this happens 30 seconds into the trailers so already it's quite a fast pace.I've noticed throughout my research that especially horror trailers always show the happy events prior to the films changing moment. This trailer does that by playing a kind of happy tune 'Brown eyed girl' by van Morrison at the start to giving the movie a different path to go down to try and deceive the audience so that when something horrific happens it shocks the audience more.
At the start the quick shots that are shown consist of bright happy scene like the parades and dancing along with some narration however, only 30 seconds of this happy life style is shown as at 31 seconds in the features of a horror start to show. The narration stops and features such as screams and loads bangs are heard implying the change of events is threatening to the female protagonist.Even the famous image from the film 'Psycho' is used which reiterates the fact that it is a thriller film with the sub-genre of horror.
The film itself was not well received with critics as it only reach 11% on Rotten Tomatoes with the top critics however, had strong reviews of people saying it's a thriller however, just badly adapted from the book.
