In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?
In preparation for my media trailer, I re-cut an existing trailer in order to change the genre.I did this simply so I could get a feel for the software final cut pro as i have never used it before and I also did it to prove how editing is so important within the making of a trailer and how different changes within the trailer can change peoples perception of the trailer. For my trailer I picked the film 'TED' a comedy and tried to turn it into a horror however I feel throughout the production I sort of swayed the trailer more towards crime as there was a lot more crime features than there were horror. However we the concept of horror in my mind at the start I researched into the horror conventions like main features, history, past and recent examples. This helped me to identify what makes certain films and horror and with the information I began to re-cut my trailer. However I feel I may have challenged the horror genre because within the film there was a lot of fighting therefore that was a main feature within the TED trailer therefore this featured heavily within my trailer which made it more of a crime drama therefore maybe I developed the genre within my trailer as hybridisation like that with those to genre's is quite unusual to see now-a-days.
Many trailers today have text in between cuts within the trailer to help the audience identify the type of film it is and within my trailer I did not do this. This was not intentional it was just something I simply forgot to add in.One of the comments I got back for my trailer was that it was too short, which i completely agree with however if I had remember these text gaps I feel it would have been an appropriate length.I feel I may have challenged convention with my use of music as I started the 'Teddy bear song' while the production company's logo's were appearing which is not commonly done within trailers therefore in this way I have challenged conventions in comparison to other trailers.

Re-Cut...
Here I have first started using final cut pro,and the project that we participated is to re-cut an existing trailer in order to change the genre.I have decided to re-cut Ted into a horror and here is my result...
I also have a kind of full length trailer that I created as 'Ted' the horror however I feel this has let me down in some areas as the sound and editing is not where i would like to be with regards to using final cut pro at this current time. Here is my full trailer...
How you decided on the trailer you picked and why you picked it?
I have chosen this trailer as I feel it's a completly different genre to what I wanted to change it to and I feel this would challenge me while also building on my knowledge of genre and my skills of using the program (final cut pro) and the enhanced effects I could be using within the final project.I picked this trailer because I am a fan of the movie 'Ted' and when researching what trailer to re-cut I just researched through some of my favourites and watched 'Ted' and notcied there a lot of scenes that can be made to look brutal or in some cases supernatural which will work well if i was going to turn it into a horror.
Why you chose to adjust the genre of your trailer to the one you picked
Again as I have said before I found that within the trailer there were quite a lot of punches and hits which in the trailer is just therefore amusement but with the right sound could be quite effect and fit into the genre of horror.
How you went about the production of your trailer (editing, sound, etc.)
well at first I started by just trimming away the parts of the trailers that held the comedic points and just going the scenes together in a kind of chronological way. After this I started using transitions and this did take a couple of re-trys as I found it was hard to match a trailer to the theme of my re-cut.Once it was all in sequence i through about the sound. Now in the original trailer when Ted and the man are fitting towards the end the upbeat pop/rock song,'How you like me now' by The heavy was played and from this is order to make the trailer little edgy I research rock songs.I found the song,'smells like teen sprit' by Nivarna and added this as the non-diegetic music played over the fight scene at the end and this was the first piece of music I had within my trailer.I then started to move along and find an opening song and found a audio version of the 'Teddy bear song' sung by a man with quite a peculiar voice. So I added this to the start of my trailer and changed the pitch in order to give the dangerous yet strong feel to the now Ted horror trailer. After this it was just the silence i had to feel and to fix this I slowed the Nivarna song right down till about 10% to it creates quite a sister tune. This is played throughout the start of my clip and under neither the other songs to make my trailer hit home thats its a horror. However towards the end of my creative experience i found that the nivarna song that wasn't slowed down at the end really wasn't working well together with the visuals therefore at the last minutes i changed my end music to the Music score from the film,'The Entity'.
Time management of the production (did you meet deadlines, etc.)
I feel I finished on time as I have met the deadline however I feel I could have worked quicker as the last minute song change was quite sudden and could have easily have changed the way my trailer was interpreted have I had not finished in time.
Problems that arose during production and how (or if!) you overcame them
The problem i first had was that I had never seen this program (final cut pro) before so I had no idea how to use it and was creating really jumpy pieces of work because I didn't know how to edit well or add transitions or anything like that,so to overcome this problems I asked my peers for advice and support and also used online tutorials and now I feel much more confident with Final Cut Pro.Another problem was half way editing this trailer I found that I hadn't really got as much violence as I originally thought therefore towards the end of the trailer i felt personally it became more of the crime genre rather than a horror.
What you have learnt from this process and how you will improve for next time
To improve next time I will be much more loose with my trailer and not try to make every clip perfect as I found the the clips that worked best for me was the ones were I was just playing around with software.I can also continue watching tutorials online to help me expand my knowledge on how to use this program and have a deeper understanding of how to use the program to create my genre. This time I originally set out to make horror and looking back I now feel this can be considered a horror as it's got some of the main features there however it can be considered as a crime film and the only scary bits are when the Teddy is fighting.
Ted Trailer Analysis
The scene starts with some narration and light music while scrolling through the production and distribution company before playing a high angered shot of what looks like a house from 'The Grinch' ,which gives us our first comedic value. At first this trailer can be seen as a sort of fantasy film as within the voice over there is the mention of magic. We see a child hugging a teddy bear and all seems happy and delightful as the seen is also quite bright, which gives us the impression of the family feel good films. However as the voice over changes so does the seen.It jumps forwards to the future and we see the boy as an adult and the bear 'Ted' animated.we the two in a mid two shot, which shows all of the props around and we see the bear smoking and the man eating junk for.So immediately here all of our previous expectations have been banished. A non-diegetic light hearted tune seems to have been slowed down and put into this seen, which tells us that this film is a comedy as the it's so unreal within the first scene. We also know that its a comedy as,
'It's from the creators of Family Guy',which is one of the biggest animated comedy shows on television today.
The scene then cuts to the job having a chat however as a playful why Ted punches the man. This defiantly adds a comedy feel to this trailer as a teddy bear beating up a man is so far fetched its funny.Again Ted doing far fetched things is quite common within this trailer as we Ted drive a car, crash a car and overall do surreal things that you know a teddy will not do.
From the trailer we can see that a problem occurs as it is highlighted within dialogue that 'TED has to move out'.When this problem is approach the trailer changes the lightening to a sort of cold blue from the help of the location that it is a sad time, their are more two shots shown on screen to show the relationship between the characters and how they are going to develop throughout this film. However to keep sprits high within the film they quickly show TED's progression by using jump cuts to wide shots to show New York city and leaving us with a enigma as to whats going to happen. The bright colours from the natural lighting present a happy and upbeat mood with regards to the scenes that follow which again reiterates the fact that this film 'TED' is a comedy. This problem is quickly covered by the fast pace within the editing and as the sound is a still light and happy we as the audience quickly wait for the next laugh which are solely used within comedy films.
The events then follow TED finding his way in New York city and from acting the humorous elements are adding however only with the use of the concepts like camera, miss en scene, editing and sound are these made possible. The song featured towards the end,'How you like me now'by The heavy presents a kind of
